Job Title: Fiber Optic Technician (Splicing + Broadband Networking)
Location: Yap, Federated States of Micronesia (relocation required for minimum 12 months; extension possible)
About Us
iBoom is an internet service and Telecommunication Company, operate Fiber Optic Broadband network in Yap delivering reliable and secured internet and services to the community. We’re hiring a hands-on Fiber Optic Technician who can splice fiber, troubleshoot and maintain the network, and work with our networking and service systems.
Key Responsibilities
Perform precise single-mode and multi-mode fiber splicing (fusion and mechanical) and terminations.
Test, troubleshoot and certify fiber links using OTDR, power meters, and loss test sets.
Install, maintain and repair fiber cabling, panels, patching and enclosures in outside plant and indoor environments.
Understand and support the broadband network architecture (DWDM/GPON/active ethernet or relevant topology used), including fiber handoffs, link budgeting and basic network fault isolation.
Configure, diagnose and support network equipment (switches, routers, optical terminals, CPE) to ensure service availability.
Work with provisioning and monitoring tools; document network changes, test results and field reports.
Respond to outages and participate in on-call rotations as needed.
Coordinate with local staff and follow safety and best-practice procedures while working in the field.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical) and testing.
Knowledge of fiber broadband network concepts, link budgeting, and basic network troubleshooting.
Experience using OTDRs, visual fault locators, power meters and other fiber test equipment.
Ability to read fiber network diagrams and perform accurate documentation.
Good problem-solving, communication skills and ability to work independently in remote settings.
Willingness to relocate to Yap for a minimum 12-month assignment and work on-site.
Nice to Have
Experience with GPON, EPON, DWDM or active Ethernet deployments.
Networking certifications or experience (CCNA or equivalent).
Software development experience (scripting, automation, or systems integration).
VOIP/telephony experience and knowledge of SIP, PBX systems and QoS.
Prior field experience in island or remote environments.
