I run a small clothing brand and I’m looking to automate how we generate our tech packs using ONLY Google Workspace (Forms, Docs, Drive, Sheets + Apps Script). No external paid tools.
Right now, I manually:
• Create a Google Doc tech pack for each style (tanks, tees, hoodies, sweats, etc.).
• Type in all the style details (style code, fabric, trims, packaging, barcodes, etc.).
• Organize all related images (tech drawings, fit reference, barcode files, print files) into folders in Google Drive.
I want this turned into a structured, mostly-automated workflow.
What I want built
When I submit a Google Form for a new style, I want the system to:
• Create a new style folder in Google Drive for that garment.
• Generate a Google Doc tech pack from my existing template by replacing placeholders (e.g. packaging, barcode fields, etc.) with the form answers.
• Store that new tech pack Doc in the correct style folder.
• Take any uploaded files from the form (flats, fit reference, barcode images/PDFs, print/artwork) and place them into clearly organized locations inside that style folder.
• (Nice to have) Write the created Doc/folder URLs back into the response sheet and/or send me an email summary.
I already have:
• A working Google Docs tech pack template (you’ll help me add/standardize placeholder tags).
• A clear idea of the fields I want in the form (style info, fabric, trims, barcodes, packaging, uploads).
You will:
• Help me finalize the Google Form fields.
• Implement the automation using Google Apps Script so the above flow works reliably on each form submission.
• Make it easy for me to later add/edit fields and placeholders myself.
• Provide a short written guide or quick Loom explaining how things are wired and what I can safely change.
Ideal freelancer
• Strong experience with Google Apps Script, especially automations that connect Forms → Sheets → Docs → Drive.
• Has built something similar before (document generation, folder/file organization, or intake-form-based workflows).
• Communicates clearly with non-technical clients and keeps the solution simple and maintainable.
