Summary: We are looking for a Founding AI Engineer to help design and build the core intelligence layer of a new platform focused on transforming how companies manage regulatory compliance. This role sits at the intersection of AI systems, knowledge representation, workflow orchestration, and observability. You will work closely with the Founder to design and build systems that enable organizations to embed compliance directly into their operational workflows. The platform will leverage modern AI technologies to transform regulatory documents, policies, and guidance into structured knowledge that AI systems can reason about in real time. This is a highly technical role focused on building reliable AI infrastructure, reasoning systems, and workflow orchestration layers rather than simple prompt engineering. The goal is to create scalable systems that allow companies to continuously monitor compliance, detect risks, and produce auditable decision trails. Responsibilities: - to design and develop AI systems that transform regulatory documents and policies into structured, queryable knowledge; - to build and maintain regulatory knowledge graphs that allow AI systems to reason about compliance obligations and rules; - to design compliance-aware AI workflows that validate outputs, enforce regulatory checks, and provide explainable decision reasoning; - to develop monitoring systems that continuously analyse company operations and detect potential compliance risks; - to build infrastructure that records evidence, reasoning steps, regulatory references, and decision history for auditability; - to design and implement AI architecture components such as RAG pipelines, agent orchestration systems, and structured data models; - to develop observability and monitoring layers for AI decision-making systems; - to collaborate closely with product and leadership teams to define platform architecture and product direction; - to ensure systems are reliable, traceable, and explainable, particularly in regulated environments. Core Qualifications: - at least 5+ years of experience in software engineering or AI systems engineering; - strong experience designing LLM-based systems or AI infrastructure; - experience building knowledge graph systems or structured knowledge representations; - strong experience with data modelling and system architecture design; - experience building or working with agent architectures, orchestration systems, or workflow engines; - familiarity with RAG pipelines and AI reasoning systems; - experience designing observability, monitoring, or traceability systems; - strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex, ambiguous problems; - ability to work effectively in a small, fast-moving team environment. Nice to Have - experience working with regulated industries such as fintech, insurance, or healthcare; - familiarity with regulatory frameworks or compliance systems; - experience building AI systems requiring explainability or deterministic behaviour; - experience working in early-stage startups or founding engineering teams; - exposure to workflow automation platforms or monitoring pipelines.
