Hello! We are looking for a high-level data engineer / analytics developer to design and build a price analysis system for supplier offers. Our company receives approximately 5 supplier offers per day, each containing ~50 SKUs (about 250 SKU lines daily). Our staff already formats the supplier offers into a standardized spreadsheet, so data cleaning, OCR, or parsing is NOT required. What we need is a system that analyzes these offers and automatically identifies the most competitive SKUs and the strongest supplier offers based on historical pricing and daily comparisons. The final system should allow us to quickly answer questions such as: • Which supplier offer is strongest today • Which SKUs are the cheapest across all suppliers • Which prices are the best seen in the last 180 days • Which SKUs are significantly below historical averages • Which suppliers consistently provide the most competitive pricing Current Situation We currently use Power BI, but it is not well suited for the daily workflow of comparing multiple supplier offers and analyzing historical competitiveness. We want to build a structured system that stores historical offers and automatically performs the comparisons. We are open to solutions using: • SQL databases • Power BI / Power Query • Python • Excel automation • Light web apps or dashboards The key requirement is automation, scalability, and reliable SKU-level comparison logic. Expected Workflow The system should work roughly as follows: Staff uploads the standardized supplier offer file The system stores the offer lines in a historical database The system compares the prices against: other offers received the same day historical prices (last 180 days) optional benchmark prices The system generates competitiveness metrics A dashboard or report highlights the best SKUs and strongest supplier offers Core Functional Requirements 1. Historical Price Database Store all supplier offer lines including: • Supplier • SKU - Size - Pattern - Brand • Date • Unit price • Quantity available • Optional additional fields This database should support historical analysis and trend comparisons. 2. Daily Offer Comparison For each SKU: • Rank supplier prices received that day • Identify lowest price • Identify top 3 suppliers • Calculate price spread 3. Historical Price Analysis For each SKU: • Best price in last 180 days • Average historical price • Median historical price • Identify new historical lows 4. Competitiveness Scoring Each SKU line should receive a score based on factors such as: • Rank vs today's suppliers • Discount vs historical price • Discount vs benchmark price (optional) 5. Offer-Level Summary The system should produce an offer-level performance summary such as: • Number of SKUs where supplier is cheapest • Number of SKUs in top 3 • Number of new historical lows • Overall competitiveness score 6. Dashboard / Reporting Interface Examples: • Power BI dashboard • Excel dashboard • Lightweight web interface The goal is to quickly identify: • Best SKUs to purchase • Best supplier offers • Pricing trends over time Technical Approach (Flexible) We are open to different architectures such as: Option A SQL database + Power BI dashboard Option B Python automation + database + dashboard Option C Excel + Power Query + historical data model We prefer simple, robust, and maintainable solutions over overly complex systems. Ideal Candidate • Strong experience in data engineering or analytics automation • Experience building pricing analytics systems or procurement tools • Strong knowledge of SQL and data modeling • Experience with Power BI, Python, or automation pipelines Bonus if you have experience with: • SKU-level product pricing analysis • procurement analytics • supplier comparison systems Deliverables • Fully working price analysis system • Historical database structure • Automated competitiveness calculations • Dashboard or reporting interface • Documentation explaining how to use and maintain the system Estimated Scope This is a one-time build project, but if the system works well we may continue expanding it.
