Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Twilio & Retell AI Voice Automation Engineer to design, implement, and optimize AI-powered voice and chat experiences for a dealership group. This role requires deep technical expertise in Twilio telephony infrastructure, Retell.ai voice agents (Flex Mode), and API-driven conversational orchestration. The ideal contractor has hands-on experience building production-grade AI voice systems that integrate with third-party CRMs and backend services. This is not an entry-level AI prompt role — we are looking for someone who can architect, build, and deploy scalable voice automation systems. Scope of Work You will be responsible for: Telephony & Infrastructure Configure and manage Twilio phone numbers (Voice + SMS) Implement TwiML, SIP routing, and webhook handling Configure call flows, transfers, recordings, and fallback logic Optimize latency and call quality Secure SMS payment link delivery Retell.ai Implementation Build structured call flows in Retell Flex Mode Configure webhook/function nodes Implement logic splits and variable extraction Develop conversational prompts for voice and chat tools Implement escalation logic and human handoff API & Backend Integration Integrate with: Identity lookup APIs Repair order lookup systems Appointment scheduling APIs Secure payment link generation Work with AWS (API Gateway + Lambda preferred) Handle structured JSON payload mapping Implement error handling and retry logic Conversation Engineering Build deterministic multi-step flows Implement disambiguation logic (multiple vehicles, multiple appointments) Implement conditional payment workflows Maintain luxury, concierge-level conversational tone Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience with Twilio Voice & SMS Strong working knowledge of: TwiML Webhooks SIP Call routing Hands-on experience building with Retell.ai Experience building multi-node conversational flows Strong understanding of REST APIs and JSON Experience with AWS Lambda and API Gateway Ability to debug real-time voice interactions Experience handling secure payment link workflows Comfortable working independently and delivering production-ready systems Preferred Qualifications Experience in automotive dealership systems Experience integrating CRM systems Familiarity with conversational AI architecture Experience implementing sentiment detection and escalation triggers Experience building secure one-time payment flows Strong understanding of voice UX best practices Deliverables Fully configured Twilio telephony routing Production-ready Retell voice agent configuration API integration documentation Error handling and fallback logic Deployment documentation
