You will be responsible for designing a robust, modular, lab-scale automation system that: • Receives rock samples (bagged or tray-based) • Automates sample feeding and controlled spreading • Integrates conveyor belt transport between stations • Enables multi-sensor positioning (3 different sensors) • Controls sample leveling and measurement consistency • Supports repeatable, depth-indexed sample tracking • Minimizes cross-contamination • Integrates with robotic arm or motion system Key Responsibilities • Mechanical design of conveyor and material handling system • CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) • Design of: o Sample tray handling mechanism o Vibration/spread leveling system o Adjustable sensor mounting frames o Enclosures and shielding (XRF-safe design) • Selection of motors, actuators, belts, bearings, and structural components • Integration design with instrumentation vendors • BOM creation and fabrication-ready drawings • Support for prototype build and vendor coordination Ideal Candidate • 10+ years experience in: o Lab automation systems o Industrial conveyor systems o Robotics integration o Precision instrumentation platforms
