I’m looking for someone to build a structured and dynamic personal finance system in Google Sheets. I currently use an app (Emma) which aggregates my bank accounts, and I will be exporting transaction data from it on a monthly basis. The goal is to create a clean, scalable system where I can paste this raw data and have everything update automatically, without needing to create new tabs or manually adjust formulas each month. The spreadsheet should be built with a proper data structure, separating a raw data layer, a clean transactions layer, and model/output layers. The clean transactions table should standardise the data, derive the month from the transaction date, classify income vs expenses, and map categories into both granular categories (for example Uber Eats, groceries, coffee) and higher-level grouped categories (such as food or transport). Any new or unmapped categories should be clearly flagged so I can assign them. On top of this, I want a budgeting system that includes a baseline monthly budget per category, with the ability to override specific future months where needed. The model should then calculate budget vs actual performance, including variance in both absolute and percentage terms. I also need a monthly aggregation layer that summarises income and spend by category, and a drill-down view where I can select a specific month and/or category and see the underlying transactions driving the numbers. In addition, I would like a basic forward-looking element where past months reflect actuals and future months are projected based on budgets or simple assumptions. The final output should include a clean dashboard showing key metrics such as monthly income, expenses, net position, spending trends over time, category breakdowns, and budget vs actual performance. It is important that the model is fully dynamic, scalable as more data is added, and built using standard Google Sheets functionality (formulas, pivot tables, etc., no complex macros required). I’m particularly focused on clean structure, logical data flow, and ease of use over time.
